Paint Correction in Staten Island – Remove Swirls and Restore Gloss

Multi-Stage Machine Polishing for a Clear, Reflective Finish

Paint correction is a precise, careful machine polishing process that permanently removes or significantly reduces visible paint defects. These include swirl marks, light scratches, oxidation, water-spot etching and holograms left by poor polishing. At AutoSkin NYC we use professional machines, pads and compounds to safely level the clear coat and reveal the true color and clarity of your paint.

Unlike simple one-step polishing or ‘buff and wax’ services, real paint correction is about controlled defect removal, not just temporary gloss. It takes time, lighting, experience and the right tools, especially on dark and soft paints.

What Paint Correction Can Fix

A proper correction service can dramatically improve:

  • Circular swirl marks from automatic car washes and improper hand washing
  • Light to moderate scratches in the clear coat
  • Oxidation and dullness on older paint
  • Holograms and buffer trails from previous poor polishing
  • Light water-spot etching (depending on depth)

Important: paint correction cannot safely fix deep scratches that have broken through the clear coat or down to the primer. In these cases, touch-up or bodywork may be required. We will always be transparent about what is and is not realistic for your paint.

Our Paint Correction Process

  1. Inspection and lighting – We inspect your car’s paint under proper lighting to identify the type and level of defects.
  2. Washing and decontamination – We perform a thorough wash, iron removal and clay treatment to remove all bonded contamination from the surface.
  3. Test spot – We choose a test area and adjust machine, pad and compound combinations until we find the most effective and safe approach for your specific paint.
  4. Correction stage – We work panel by panel, carefully polishing to remove the majority of visible defects while preserving as much clear coat as possible.
  5. Finishing stage – We refine the finish to remove any haze and maximize clarity and gloss.
  6. Protection – After correction, we recommend adding a ceramic coating or sealant to protect the now-corrected paint and keep it looking better for longer.

When to Choose Paint Correction

Paint correction is a great choice if:

  • You own a dark-colored car and are tired of seeing swirls in every reflection
  • You bought a used vehicle that looks dull or heavily washed, but the paint is still structurally healthy
  • You plan to install a ceramic coating or PPF and want the finish to be as clean and sharp as possible beforehand
  • You are preparing a special car for shows, events or simply your own satisfaction

Protecting the Result

Once the paint is corrected, it is important to protect it properly. We strongly recommend pairing paint correction with a ceramic coating or at minimum a high-quality sealant. This will keep the finish looking better for longer and make washing safer and easier. We can discuss all options during your consultation and build a plan that fits your budget and expectations.
